E-Cup Launch 2026
Details about our annual student entrepreneurship competition.
The E-Cup Launch Competition Is Here — $100K in Prizes, Zero Excuses
You've built something real. You have customers. You have a product that works.
Now it's time to launch — and The Foundry wants to back you.
The E-Cup Launch Competition kicks off March 11th, and we're putting $100,000 on the table for UVA student founders who are done theorizing and ready to go. This isn't a business plan competition. There's no hypothetical customer persona, no imaginary revenue model. This is for founders who have already done the hard work — and are ready to prove it.
And it ends on the biggest possible stage: Finals at the Tom Tom Festival on April 24th.
What's at Stake
| Prize | Amount ||---|---|| 🥇 Grand Prize | $40,000 || 🥈 Runner-Up | $25,000 || 🥉 Third Place | $15,000 || 4th Place | $5,000 || 5th Place | $5,000 || 🏆 Audience Choice | $10,000 |
That's $100K in cash — plus additional prizes still to be announced. Real capital. Real momentum. The kind of funding that lets you make your first hire, run your first campaign, or finally go full-time on the thing you've been building between classes.
Every Participant Wins — Day One
Here's something most competitions won't tell you: you win something just by competing.
Every team in the E-Cup Launch Competition gets full access to the Foundry Perks Depot — $100,000+ in credits and discounts on the tools founders actually use:
Cloud & Hosting — free credits for AWS, GCP, and moreDesign & Dev Tools — premium access to build fasterMarketing & Analytics — tools to reach your first customersLegal & Finance — incorporation, banking, and complianceAI & Productivity — AI platforms and workspace tools
You don't have to place. You don't have to make finals. Show up, compete, and unlock a resource stack that would cost most early-stage founders tens of thousands of dollars to build on their own.
Who Should Apply

What Judges Are Looking For
Five criteria. One clear signal: have you done the work?
| Criterion | What Judges Want to See ||---|---|| Customer Evidence (30%) | Real users, paying customers, LOIs, waitlist with engagement — proof of demand beyond the team's opinion || Business Model Clarity (25%) | Pricing, unit economics, revenue model — defensible and already being tested, not theoretical || MVP / Product Readiness (20%) | Is it built and working? Can you show it? Are real people using it? || Go-to-Market Plan (15%) | Concrete plan for first 100 customers — specific channels, costs, timelines || Founder-Market Fit (10%) | Why this team, why this problem — domain knowledge, personal connection, unfair advantage |
Customer evidence sits at the top for a reason. At this stage, the market has to speak for you.
The Audience Choice Award
Ten thousand dollars goes to the team that moves the room. Audience members vote during finals day at Tom Tom — the community picks the winner. Build something people believe in, and let that energy carry you.
Start Now
Kickoff is March 11th, but the best teams are already tightening their decks, polishing their demos, and stress-testing their numbers.
The question isn't whether your idea is good. The question is whether you can prove it.
Come prove it.
